Concrete Floor Installed in Honey Shed – Southgate Construction Update
This week we poured and finished the new concrete floor for the honey extraction shed project located in Southgate—between Holstein and Mount Forest, just south of Durham. A big thank you to the Eccles family for pitching in during the pour, helping us move cement into the building efficiently, and capping it off with a home-cooked meal. Projects like this remind us how much we value working with great people on family-run rural properties.
We installed a smooth, power-trowel finish across the full interior to ensure easy cleaning and smooth movement of honey extraction equipment. Whether used for honey processing, storage, or future utility, this kind of concrete finish gives the space the durability and function it needs for long-term farm use. Another milestone checked off as we push this custom pole shed renovation and new build closer to completion.
The overhead doors, doors, windows,
insulation and the remainder of the lumber is on site and ready to go to complete this project.
New 2x6 walls which will be insulated are installed partitioning the extraction room from the shop/storage area. We also framed in a utility room and small 3pc bathroom. This will allow the water to stay on in the building without having to heat the whole building. There will be a floor framed above the utility/bathroom walls allowing storage space.
The
has a centre gutter drain to make equipment washing really easy. We also didn't power trowel the extraction room floor as smooth as the shop area as it will be getting an epoxy coating to keep the room easy to sanitize and also help protect the cement.
Honey Extraction Shed Prepped for Concrete – Southgate Build
This honey extraction shed project in Southgate—just south of Durham between Holstein and Mount Forest—is now fully prepped for concrete. We’ve completed a full rough-in of ABS drainage, including a center trench drain, overflow catch basin, and hookups for a double stainless sink and full bathroom. This is part of a larger pole shed renovation and new addition, converting a simple farm outbuilding into a fully functional honey processing facility.
With the steel roof on and framing complete, the structure is now enclosed and ready for a concrete floor pour. This type of custom agricultural build—part renovation, part new construction—is what we specialize in at JCB & SONS: helping rural property owners upgrade sheds, workshops, and utility buildings with professional planning and long-term durability.
We have installed Typar, which will keep things dry while we pour the floor. It will also be a barrier between the new wall steel and the spray foam insulation we will be installing.
The extraction room, utility room, and bathroom all have received 1.5"
(R7.5) under the new cement floor to make a really energy efficient building. This will make the building easy to heat, and cost efficient.
The Sump Pail is acting as our catch basin, all the water from the centre gutter drain in the extraction room come to this pail in the utility room and than exit the building. The overflow in the drain has a 90 degree fitting on it to allow the water out but not allow any gasses back into the building.
We can't wait to pour the new floor for this project.
Pole Shed Framing & Roofing – Southgate Build Near Holstein
Framing is now complete on this Southgate pole shed addition, located between Mount Forest and Holstein—just south of Durham. We’ve installed the new roof steel, and cornice trims, tying everything cleanly into the existing structure. JCB & SONS served as the general contractor, managing layout, framing, and roofing to ensure the build was strong, straight, and ready for the next phase.
We had the new trusses custom made to match the existing roof perfectly.
We are really excited for you to see the new wall steel. We will be replacing all of it and changing the colour to really pop against the ivory trims and brown roof.
All the braces are installed on the new trusses to make a really incredibly strong roof system.
